Nesma Aboulkhair

Additive Manufacturing Team Lead
The state-of-the-art of additive manufacturing activities at the Technology Innovation Institute

Aboulkhair is currently the Additive Manufacturing Team Lead at the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), Abu Dhabi, UAE. Prior to joining TII, she was an Assistant Professor in the department of Mechanical, Materials, and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Nottingham (UK), where she is now a visiting academic. She has been working in the field of Additive Manufacturing since 2013, when she started her PhD in Materials Engineering and Materials Design at the Centre for Additive Manufacturing at the University of Nottingham (UK). As an early career researcher, she has an excellent track record of scientific publications (37 articles, h-index 20, Field Weighted Citation Impact 5.45) and funding (in excess of £2M). Her active research projects span across several metal additive manufacturing processes, including powder-based and droplet-on-demand. Coming from a mechanical engineering background, holding an MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering (Materials & Manufacturing) from the American University in Cairo (Egypt) and a BSc in Mechanical Design and Production from Cairo University (Egypt), her research interests are mainly experimental with focus on materials processing, manufacturing, and characterisation for metallurgy and mechanical properties, i.e. the process-structure-property relationships. In addition, she has growing interest in developing new materials for metal additive manufacturing.

Nesma is the president of the Early Career Researchers committee for the Association of Industrial Laser Users (AILU), UK. She is also involved in a range of outreach activities to raise the public’s awareness about Additive Manufacturing. She has been awarded numerous awards and honours, including the prestigious Anne McLaren Fellowship (UK).
